Who will prescribe my medication?

Your prescriber will be a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) licensed in Maryland. PMHNPs are advanced-practice nurses with specialized training in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and medication management.

Is the prescriber a psychiatrist or a nurse practitioner?

Our prescribers are PMHNPs. In Maryland, PMHNPs are qualified to evaluate, diagnose, and prescribe psychiatric medication. They often collaborate with consulting psychiatrists when a case requires it. For many clients, a PMHNP provides the same quality of care as a psychiatrist, often with shorter wait times.

How often are appointments?

After your initial evaluation, follow-ups are typically every 1–3 months for monitoring and adjustments, depending on your care plan.

Is telehealth available for medication management?

Yes, telehealth is available statewide across Maryland. Note that certain medications may require an in-person visit per state and federal rules.

Will I need to come in for the first appointment?

Often your evaluation can be completed via telehealth, but certain medications and clinical situations require an in-person visit. Your prescriber will let you know what applies to your care.

What if I'm already receiving care from another provider?

We welcome clients transferring care. Bring your current treatment details to your evaluation and your prescriber will review your history before making any recommendations.

Medication management at K&I Healthcare Services is more than a prescription. Our licensed psychiatric nurse practitioners conduct a thorough evaluation, develop a treatment plan with you, and stay involved through ongoing follow-ups.

Our prescribers are board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP-BC) licensed in Maryland. We do not begin medication without a complete evaluation. If medication is not the right path, we'll say so, and we'll work with you on alternatives, including referral to our therapy team.
